Welcome to Kestrel Heights School
Kestrel Heights School, founded in 1998 as a public charter school, serves students in grades K-12 in the greater Durham area. We believe that all children can succeed in a safe and challenging environment that is dedicated to nurturing lifelong learners. By fostering a community with high expectations, modeling characteristics of responsible citizenship, and focusing on the development of the whole person, we believe we will help to create a great school for all children. Kestrel Heights School is associated in partnership with the Ackland Museum and the National Paideia Center at UNC Chapel Hill.

Mrs. Renita Webb, Director
Kestrel Heights Elementary School


Mrs. Renita Webb has joined the Kestrel Family in as our Elementary School Director. She was previously an Assistant Principal in the Alamance Burlington School System. She also taught English/Language Arts in Durham Public Schools and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.

Mrs. Webb has been a cheerleading coach, AVID Coordinator and Elective Teacher, and Team Leader. She has been an advocate for kids outside of the school setting serving as a member of the Girls as Precious Pearls Mentoring Program and Youth Empowerment Academy Advisory Board (Ebenezer United Church of Christ – Burlington, NC), The Alamance County Cultural and Linguistic Competence Committee (Burlington, NC) and is currently a member of the advisory board for Arts Mission of Durham, N.C.

She received her B.A. in English Literature from Elon University, M.Ed. in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University, and is currently All But Dissertation for her Ph.D. in Leadership in Education Administration from Capella University.  She is a native of Durham, NC, proud wife and mother of three.


We are excited to announce that the YMCA will run an afterschool program in our elementary school!

Kindergarten Age Requirement: The North Carolina State Legislation states, "that a child may be enrolled in Kindergarten if his/her fifth birthday falls on or before August 31. If a child’s fifth birthday falls after August 31, then the child is not eligible to enter Kindergarten, unless the child is gifted and has the maturity to justify early admission. If a child turns five years of age after August 31, and s/he is gifted and has the maturity for a full-day kindergarten year, then the principal may consider each child for student aptitude, achievement, performance, student behavior/interest, and motivation The parent is responsible for having the child tested for student aptitude and achievement, of which the child must score at the 98th percentile or above on both tests."

We will offer small class sizes for elementary: Kindergarten will consist of four classrooms of 18 students, 1st and 2nd grades will consist of three classsrooms of 20 students, 3rd grade will consist of three classrooms of 22 students and 4th and 5th grade will consist of three classrooms of 25 students.

KHS Media Center
