Heights Courses |
| Kestrel
Heights is designed to follow the Paideia system of learning
and instructing. As a Paideia school, we encourage students
to become life long learners – to be curious and
think critically about the world at large. We are a college
preparatory school and we encourage students to become
prepared to enter college upon graduation. We believe
that every child can learn and that citizenship and community
engagement in education are just as important as rigorous
academics.
The
school offers courses at many ability levels: Standard,
Honors, and Advanced Placement. The curriculum at Kestrel
Heights Charter School is based on the North Carolina
Standard Course of Study, and we offer students opportunities
for increased enrichment and advancement in their course
of study choices.
We
offer a variety of courses to meet students at their level.
Since we assign homework every evening (an average 30
minutes per night in most courses and 30-60 minutes per
night in Honors and Advanced Placement courses), students
who possess the discipline to complete homework every
evening and to arrive prepared for each class the following
day will do well at KHS.
Ninth-grade
applicants should be ready to take Algebra 1 or a higher
mathematics course. Applicants for other grades must meet
the graduation requirements for the State of North Carolina
and for Kestrel Heights Charter School.
