Serving the Durham community since 1998. First senior class of 22 graduated in June 2007. Former Kestrel students have attended NC School of Science and Mathematics, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Pembroke, UNC-Wilmington, Western Carolina University, Brown University, NCSU, NCCU, NC A&T State University, Appalachian State University, and more! The only charter school in NC to have one of its teachers named NC Charter Teacher of the Year, twice! The National Paideia Center at UNC is currently working with our 8th grade students to produce training films for teachers around the country.

We have earned the Durham Crop Walk “Silver Sneaker Award”. Students may take an overnight trip to visit colleges, historic sites, and enjoy a well-deserved break. We have an exchange program and students have traveled to Mexico, Costa Rica and Russia. Founding member of the Triangle Middle School Conference and the Central Carolina Athletic Conference for high school. Working partnership with the National Paideia Center @ UNC and the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill.
