| The
Parent, Teacher, Student Organization welcomes
your family to the 2011-2012 school year at Kestrel
Heights! The objectives of the PTSO are to:
foster
communication among the students, teachers, and
parents;
fund projects that promote
educational opportunities for our students; and,
engage and encourage
parents' active involvement at school.
While
individual grades, athletics and departments/clubs
raise funds for their own use, the PTSO has the
unique and honored position of serving the whole
school community. We invite staff and parent input
into how best to use raised money. We strive to
equitably distribute funds to best fill in gaps
and help when needs arise giving the best opportunities
for all our students to shine and extend themselves.
In
the 2010-2011 school year we provided: numerous
staff appreciation events, student awards breakfasts,
prizes for the 'caught being good' program, donations
for 8th grade and high school graduations, books
and supplies for Reading Olympics, International
Night, Fall Book Fair, hosted the Fall Family
Picnic, and organized volunteers and materials
for grounds and facilities cleanup days.
We
fund our giving in many ways. We seek grants and
donations from the larger community and encourage
involvement in give-back programs such as Box
tops for Education and the Harris Teeter VIC Together
in Education program (2705). We ask parents to
pay annual dues and we fundraise through the year
in a variety of ways, including direct sales,
yard sales, and admissions to school-wide social
events.
We
welcome your active participation at Kestrel.
There are many different ways you can serve your
student and your school throughout the year. We
send news and opportunities home via the weekly
school e-newsletter, however the PTSO also has
its own section of the school website and we are
starting a Facebook page which will have the most
detailed and interactive information about what's
happening with the PTSO. Everyone is invited to
attend Kestrel PTSO Board meetings the third Monday
of each month.
We
invite you to join the PTSO by completing
the Online PTSO Membership Form.
In addition, there are a number of ways you can
be involved at the school now by checking out
the list of
volunteer opportunities and upcoming
events.
The
PTSO meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6
p.m. at Kestrel. We look forward to seeing you
soon!
